Waters of Life Church Council Meeting
January 13, 2015
The church council meeting was called to order by President Eric Kaiser at 6:30 pm January 13, 2015. Members present were Pastor Tim, Deb Skoglund, Justin Dahl, Steve Hadley, and Linda Britton.
Eric Kaiser led us in devotions on the book “Reclaiming the “L” Word” by Kelly A. Fryer. She explained in her book that the church may be the only organization on the planet that exists entirely for the sake of those people who don’t belong to it yet. As members of Waters of Life we must remember that our church is there for those who don’t have a church and we must make them welcome here.
Motion by Justin Dahl, second by Deb Skoglund to approve minutes from the December council meeting with a few changes. Motion carried.
Deb Skoglund reported the receivables and disbursement numbers are getting better. Bubbling Brooks will present their 2015 budget to the council in February. Members had a discussion of possibly having certain things such as a freezer as an item for raising money for this over and above the regular giving. Members wonder what other items the council could have help with from members Deb will give the last quarterly report to the congregation on February 15.
Steve will be the lead for the A Brush with Kindness program. He reports that any job will be one to two days in length costing up to $2,500. Habitat for Humanity would get any permits needed and supply a noon meal for the workers. We will start promoting the program in April.
Tactical Plan Update
Members went over the tactical plan draft and added ideas to the different issues to arrive at a draft of what we would like the 2015 plan to be. There are new ideas for events to be held at the church and possible changes to the current events. Eric will incorporate all the suggestions and have the revised plan for the council in February. Motion by Justin Dahl, second by Linda Britton to approve the plan as presented. Motion carried.
It was decided to hold a Rally Sunday for the annual meeting day in June. The council will work on the details in the coming months.
Steve Hadley reports that the Columbarium task force is making process and will continue to keep the council informed on the process.
The next council meeting will be February 10 at 6:30 pm.
Following the Lord’s Prayer the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm.
